Emeline Lakroute is ranked No. 2 in the world among B1 women climbers, and now she faces the possibility of being excluded from the Paralympics. This is the first year climbing has been included in the Paralympics and The International Federation of Sport Climbing has cut the women’s B1 category, but has decided to the B1 compete. In response, Emeline has petitioned the IFSC to level the field by requiring all B-category athletes to wear blindfolds to level the playing field and allowing her to compete across classifications.
Even without this rule change, she plans to compete. She regularly outscores B2 athletes, climbers with partial vision, underscoring both her skill and the inequities of the current decisions.
